Safeguarding Policy

Craven District of Sanctuary is committed to safeguarding and ensuring that its supporters are safe.

  • It is committed to managing the organisation in a way which minimises the risk of abuse occurring.
  • The organisation follows the guidance and protocols outlined by the North Yorkshire Council safeguarding board https://safeguardingadults.co.uk/about-us/  and, in particular, to “raise public awareness so that communities as a whole, alongside professionals, play their part in preventing, identifying and responding to abuse and neglect”

In achieving these aims the organisation will:

  • Ensure that all core group members and volunteers have access to and are familiar with this safeguarding adult policy and procedure and their responsibilities within it.
  • Ensure concerns raised or allegations of abuse are always taken seriously.
  • Ensure there is a named lead person to promote safeguarding awareness and practice within the organisation
  • All open meetings and core group sessions will be conducted in a fair, respectful and considered manner, and be a safe place for everyone, in line with the City of Sanctuary code

  • Racist, homophobic, misogynistic or hate speech will not be tolerated.
  • Social media will adhere to the code.
  • It is not anticipated that volunteers working in schools will ever be left alone with children.
  • Online events will include at least annually, a session on an issue around recognising kinds of abuse and exploitation.
  • Free training is offered through North Yorkshire Council and other recommended providers, and will be offered to all volunteers https://safeguardingadults.co.uk/learning-research/training-courses/

Every volunteer and supporter has a responsibility to act on concerns of possible abuse and must inform the organisation’s Safeguarding Concerns Lead person.
