Grassington and District Peace Group held a vigil on Sunday 6th August to reflect on the atomic bombs dropped on Japan by the Americans in 1945. Hiroshima was bombed on 6th August, Nagasaki on 9th August.
The vigil was held as part of international Hiroshima and Nagasaki memorial day. Richard Hargreaves, of the peace group, said: “Members stood in silence for 15 minutes before sharing their thoughts between themselves and passers-by. With so many countries now possessing or developing nuclear weapons the threat of nuclear warfare is still with us.”
