A stall was set up in Bentham Main Street on 24th June to mark Refugee Week. Over 50 signatures were collected for a letter to the Home Secretary, to be sent through Julian Smith MP. It began –

“We are writing to express our distress at the way you are treating and proposing to treat people who have had to flee their homeland and are seeking safety and refuge in the UK. The UK at present is providing refuge to fewer people, as a proportion of our population than almost any other country. Compare the 176,000 in the UK with the 3.5 million in Turkey, over one million in Germany.”
