Upper Wharfedale School Re-accredited

UWS became the first School of Sanctuary in the Craven area in 2019 & was awarded the distiction again in June 2026. There was a full school assembly to celebrate the award which is very well deserved. The local MP, Sir Julian Smith was visiting, plus representatives from Craven District of Sanctuary and Kate Hart from Bradford Schools of Sanctuary.

Truibutes were paid to Helen Mukherjee who sadly died not long before the celebration. She worked tirelessly to promote the ideas of welcome and inclusion in the school and was responsible for the first award as well as this one.

The Head, Mr Chapman accepted the certificate from our Chair, Chris Rose. Mrs Harris, from the English department was also congratulated for her teaching about the refugee experience. The whole school was praised by the speakers for the effort they all put in to understanding and practising welcome and inclusion.
